01 / MY VISION

Engineering that expands
what people
can do.

I am Deiber Olivares, a systems engineer and the founder and CEO of MIKA. From a young age I found in technology a way to understand problems and build solutions. Today my professional focus is blockchain, wallets and digital infrastructure.

My story taught me that limits do not have to define what we can become. I bring that conviction to organizations and people: designing technology that expands real capabilities.

We call these capabilities superpowers, but they do not come ready-made: they are built by overcoming limits. They are tools to operate, trust to connect and freedom to create. An integrated wallet or a blockchain network of your own are concrete ways to turn that idea into a useful tool.

So that nothing stays buried in jargon: Wallet-as-a-Service means offering digital wallets inside another company’s product. Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) means offering the infrastructure of a blockchain network as a service. Tokenization represents an asset as a digital value. Smart contracts are programs that carry out agreements automatically. dApps are applications that run on a blockchain network. Web3 is the idea of an internet where people control their own data and assets.

Let’s talk

I grew up in the countryside. I was born with left-sided hemiplegia and learned to walk at the age of three. My story taught me to start over.

02 / MY STORY · FROM RESILIENCE TO ENGINEERING

My story: you fall, you get up
and you keep playing.

Before building technology, I learned to find other ways forward. My story brings together a vereda (a rural hamlet), poetry, football and education with a conviction I now carry into MIKA: expanding what people can do.

Artistic interpretation: Deiber as a child walking beside his mother in a familiar setting.
ARTISTIC INTERPRETATIONS OF MY STORY
01 / MY ROOTS · CHILDHOOD

A vereda.
Many ways to imagine.

I was born in Barranquilla and grew up in a vereda, a rural hamlet, in Achí, Bolívar. My childhood unfolded among nature, country life and a family that taught me to work with perseverance, to be grateful and to keep trying.

Poetry and verse became a passion. In words I found a way to express what I felt, and in nature, a place to observe and imagine. Living in the vereda also brought me closer to the conditions of its people and to the value of opportunities to study and learn.

That sensitivity stays with me: before thinking about a solution, I want to understand the people who will use it.

Observing, listening and imagining are also ways of starting to build.
02 / CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE · STARTING OVER

I learned to walk at three.
And I learned to start over.

I was born with left-sided hemiplegia and learned to walk at the age of three. Surgeries, therapies and more than one recovery taught me to start over, always with my family close by.

Resilience took shape in everyday decisions: adapting, learning and moving forward.
03 / SCHOOL YEARS · CURIOSITY AND INCLUSION

Football found
another pitch.

I love football. With the surgeries and recoveries, playing on the pitch was not always possible. When computers arrived at my school, another way of getting close to what I loved appeared. I started by exploring, installing programs and learning computing, at first as a game.

I also discovered football video games, such as FIFA and PES. Many games required actions with both hands that were not easy for me and offered few accessibility options. In PES I began adapting the controls, exploring settings and trying different tools until I found a way to play in my own way.

I split the actions according to what I could do: with my left hand I held one key to control movement; with my right I handled the player’s other actions. I kept refining that setup with practice. Trying, observing what worked and improving let me level up and develop new skills.

I also discovered the value of planning: anticipating a play, choosing a strategy and revisiting it when it did not work. That experience of adaptation and continuous improvement brought me even closer to technology.

The game became a meeting point with my classmates. We shared matches, competed and learned together. There I understood something that guides my work today: when a tool allows different ways to take part, it opens up possibilities for inclusion.

Between the video games, the computers and the wish to support my parents, a decision began to take shape: to study Systems Engineering.

You fall. You get up. And you keep playing. For me, that phrase has a story behind it.
04 / 2019 TO 2023 · UNIVERSIDAD DE LA COSTA (CUC)

One opportunity that opened
many others.

Leaving the vereda and returning to Barranquilla, my hometown, to study Systems Engineering was a new beginning: different rhythms, new experiences and so much to learn.

Universidad de la Costa gave me the opportunity to study on a scholarship throughout my university education. That support was decisive in continuing my path. My gratitude to the university and to everyone who was part of that stage holds a special place in my story.

I met professors, friends and people who guided me and trusted my abilities. As part of the tutoring team, I was able to support other people in their learning. Later, I led a project funded by SENA and took what I had learned to a real solution.

During the pandemic I went back to the vereda. There, it was harder to get connected and keep studying. Looking for alternatives, accepting support and staying consistent were also part of my education.

Education expanded my possibilities. Supporting others gave what I had learned a new meaning.
05 / 2023 TO 2026 · LEARNING WITH OTHERS AND BUILDING

Opportunities also
have names and faces.

In the working world I met people who taught me, shared their experience and helped me grow. With each project I learned to listen better, to make decisions and to take on new responsibilities.

I moved from university projects and enterprise solutions to connecting financial systems. At Elektrum, as a Blockchain Developer, I was technical lead on one of the projects that integrated wallets, banking and credit cores, and payments infrastructure.

Behind every integration there were people who needed to do something concrete: move their assets, understand a transaction or complete a payment. That journey strengthened my focus on blockchain and my interest in building experiences that more people can use.

Knowledge grows when it is shared; solutions get better when they start with people.
06 / SINCE OCTOBER 2026 · MIKA

My story becomes
a way of building.
MIKA.

The vereda taught me to observe. Poetry, to express. The recoveries, to reinvent myself. The game, to find other ways to take part.

The university and the people who guided me gave me tools. With them I turned those experiences into engineering.

Today, as founder and CEO of MIKA, I bring that learning to custom blockchain and Wallet-as-a-Service. I also bring it to blockchain infrastructure. Artificial intelligence expands those capabilities.

The purpose remains close to home: helping people and organizations solve their challenges and discover what they can achieve.

Not everyone sees, moves or interacts in the same way. That is why accessibility is part of the design from the start. A wallet that makes sense. A flow you can operate with a keyboard. Clear information before you confirm a payment. Technology without barriers.

“Life taught me to overcome limits; engineering taught me to build possibilities; MIKA was born so others can expand theirs.”

DO I NEED TO KNOW BLOCKCHAIN?

No. We start from the business problem, the people who will use the product and the processes. We assess whether blockchain adds value and explain our decisions in plain language.

First I listen. Then I design. I think about everyone from the start.

04 / HOW I THINK AND BUILD

Secure agents for Internet of Things devices

I am a co-author of “LightGuardAgents: Secure and Robust Embedded Agents for Internet of Things Devices”, published in the peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal Information (MDPI). I wrote it from Universidad de la Costa (CUC), in collaboration with researchers from the University of Granada (Spain) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE).

The article is listed in the University of Granada repository (opens in a new tab), the PUCE research portal (opens in a new tab) and Elsevier Research Collaborations (opens in a new tab).

The article proposes an architecture for small programs, called agents, that run inside connected devices and communicate securely: multi-level encryption and authentication with time-based one-time codes. In testing, over 75% of operations took less than 2 milliseconds, with a success rate above 99%.
